Perennial herbs. Leaf blade divided into 3 lobes; lobes elliptic or ovate-lanceolate, 10-14 cm long, apex acuminate and aristate, the central lobe petiolulate, the lateral ones oblique at base and almost sessile. Spathe-tube convolute, 4-6 cm long, spathe blade greenish or white, elliptic, 2-5 cm long, tailed at apex. Flowers unisexual. Plant dioecious: male spadix terminated by a 4-4.5 cm long subulate appendage, on the upper part with a few subulate sterile flowers; fertile flowers with 3 stamens; female spadix about 1 cm long, with abortive flowers on appendages; fertile flowers ovary ovate, stigma capitate.
Ma On Shan, Castle Peak, Victoria Peak. Guangdong, Guangxi and SE Yunnan.
In lowland thick forest and on wet places. Flowering: Apr.-Jun.
First discovered around 1850 in Hong Kong Island, this species is of special botanical interests. In Hong Kong, most of the localities of its occurrence are within Country Parks under protection.
