Description:
Tree to 16 m. Branchlets reddish brown. Leaves alternate, elliptic, 6-10 x 2.5-4 cm, apex acuminate, base cuneate and asymmetrical, adaxially dark green, abaxially pale green and glaucous, lateral nerves in 4 to 5 pairs. Inflorescence axillary, paniculate. Flowers small, bisexual and trimerous; stamens and staminodes 6, anther 2-celled; ovary ellipsoid. Fruit globose, to 4 cm in diameter, rough.
Distribution:
Endemic to Hong Kong and restricted to Tai Mo Shan.
Habitat and Ecology:
In broadleaved evergreen forest. Flowering: Oct.; fruiting: Oct. of the following year.
This endemic species was recorded from Tai Mo Shan in 2005 and determined under a new genus to science, Sinopora, in 2008. Its 2-celled anthers have opening by minute apical pores which is the feature reflected in its scientific name and Chinese common name. In Hong Kong, the locality of its occurrence is within Country Park under protection. Seed collection for propagation has been conducted.
