Perennial grasses having creeping rhizomes, 10-30cm high. Leaves linear-lanceolate, 10 cm long, 1-3mm wide, margine involute. Raceme spike-like, 2?cm long, 4-5mm wide; spikelets 1-flowered, purplish brown, lanceolate or ovate-lanceolate, 4-5(-6) mm long, 1-1.5mm wide; bilateral appressed,spikelet stalk toward 2 mm long; disarticulating below the glume, first glume wanting and second glume enveloping the thin lemma, glabrous, shortly pointed. Grain brown, long elliptic, ca. 3 mm long.

The habit of forming dense fine-textured turf, tolerating drought conditions make it very suitable for cultivation as a lawn grass.
